Ideas for half-term fun

Our countryside sites host some great activities.


Are you looking for activities to keep the kids occupied this February half-term? 

We've got events at our countryside sites that you might be interested in. 

The sky's the limit 

Come and be amazed by the night sky at Elvaston Castle. See the planets through our telescopes and have a hot drink while you star gaze. 

7pm − 9pm on Friday 14 February and Friday 21 February. Booking essential on 01629 533190. 

A peek behind the shutters 

A chance to go behind the scenes and get a close look at Elvaston's magical Gothic Hall. Our rangers will also tell you all about the Earls that once lived here. 

1pm − 3.45pm on Sunday 16 February. Booking essential on 01629 533190. 

Fun on the Green 

Join Findern Footpath Group and our rangers on Findern Village Green for some seasonal family fun. 

1pm − 3pm on Wednesday 19 February. No need to book. 

Spring into the Equinox 

Join us on a 5 mile walk from Holmewood Woodlands through Astwith and Hardstoft and along the Five Pits Trail as we search for signs of Spring. 

10am − 1pm on Thursday 20 March. Booking essential on 01629 533190. 

Sport Relief mile 

Join in the fun at Shipley Country Park. Organised in partnership with Amber Valley Village Games there will be lots of stalls and sporting activities. You'll need to register with Sport Relief − 

9.30am − 2pm on Sunday 23 March. 

Some events are free. There is a small charge for others.
